If we look at the evolution of how ability were being measured and compared,
most companies use their data processing and businesses were able to make decisions Objective
resources, we will notice that there are based on information. At this stage. The primary objective of SWCS is to
help the Group and our customers improve
the competitiveness of their operations
through the strategic use of information
systems technology. In this respect, SWCS
have been working very closely with IBM
in carrying out various information systems
planning sessions with all the top managers
throughout the Group. The planning
sessions and workshops help to build a
bridge between our computer division
and our other business and operations
managers and for this bridge to focus on
areas that are critical to the success of the
business thereby pulling today's technology
into areas where the pay-offs are.
Outside the group, SWCS is also
working very closely with IBM's ASEAN
Manufacturing Competency Centre on
several regional projects aimed at the
strategic use of computers and information
systems in the manufacturing sector.
Experiences developed from these projects
would be used to help other local manu-
facturers. The work carried out by our staff
on these projects involves helping in the
implementation of integrated manufactur-
ing systems using IBM hardware,
MAPICSII software package, training and
education on the use of the systems. Our
team is also currently providing hotline and
education support for the MAPICS II
software to the ASEAN region through
IBM. SWCS is also currently negotiating
working arrangements with other software
organizations in Thailand and Indonesia to
extend our services to those countries.
Other Services
SWCS have also been appointed as an
IBM Systems Remarketer in January 1988.
With this appointment, SWCS would be
selling IBM mid-range computers to
selected industries. With this appointment
SWCS is also expanding its marketing
department and will sell systems and soft-
ware to the other non-manufacturing
industries such as leasing, hire-purchase,
construction and property development
industries. The software for the above are
mainly developed in-house. i
